More 206 GTi 180 Feedback
Just reading the review about the Peugeot 206 GTI 180 (Peugeot 206 GTi 180 Road Test)
and am quite angry about the way the Jurno has written. He states that peugeot
have never made any Cutting edge engines. Does he even know anything about
Peugeots at all. Does he know what a 405 MI16 is. Proberbly not. If he does then
what is he talking about not cutting edge.
Yes, he knows what the Peugeot 405
MI16 is. It's a Peugeot from 15 years ago that had a 1.9 litre engine that
developed 108kW and in Australian tests had a 0-100 km/h time of 9.5 seconds.
Also recently the 307 TDI (yes this means Turbo Diesel) Completed a round
trip of Australia haveing
the best fuel econmy, setting a new world record.
..which is why we said "we’ve never
thought Peugeot 4-cylinder engines (except the turbo-diesels) are
anything cutting edge..."
If you are going to let people like this write nothing but negitave coments
about a car then you should think again. He claims that testing the car 0-100
they never got close to 7.4, 14 years ago when the 205 gti was released with a
130hp 1.9 8 Valve engine in it,it was doing 0-100 in 7.5. You do the math.
Huh? Even on the figures that
you're quoting
that makes this current car only 1/10th of a second faster to 100 than the
equivalent of 14 years ago! And that's progress? Not to mention the fact that
the GTi 180 press car was no where near as fast as 0-100 in 7.4
seconds....
This is not an abusive e mail but i am quite angry about this. What is he
talking about stiff ride. The car is a sports car and therefore the ride does
not have to be that of a S Class merc.
Sure. But it also doesn't need so
stiff a ride that some people refused to travel in it.
Also the seats in the 180 have been voted one of the most comfortable seats
in a sports car today.
So good seats more than make up for a
lousy ride, eh? What about simply getting both right?
I think he should stick to writing about different Lions. Holdens. Something
very boring, simple, ugly and nasty. I would like a reply to this e mail and an
explaination either form you (the reader of this mail) or the Jurno who worte it
why he wrote negativly, in just about every aspect of the car.
Again this is not to be taken abusivly, i just want simple explainations.

You seem to think that we
deliberately set out to condemn the car for faults that we invented. Read the
first paragraph again. We were looking
forward to driving this car, remember? You obviously are a
Peugeot fan. That's fine. But we approach every car not from the perspective of
a fan, but to evaluate it as impartially as possible. And there are plenty of
small, sporting cars we'd rather have in place of the 180 GTi.

Spacer Specs
I read the article on the intake spacers (Cool Stuff - Manifold Insulators)
and was wondering what thickness you used? Would thicker or thinner make a
difference?

We haven’t installed phenolic spacers
in any of our personal cars, but the author of that article - Sean Morgan – used
¼ inch spacers. A thicker spacer will generally reduce conducted heat but ¼ inch
spacers are easy to use with stock mounting studs and manifold flanges.
Faster Falc
I have a Ford Falcon EA S Pack (3.9 litre, 5 speed, LSD and dual fuel) and
was wondering what benefits I could obtain from changing the intake manifold to
an EL item. I’ve noticed that the vacuum plunger on the EL intake manifold is
connected to an electrically-operated valve. Is this connected to the computer?
If so can the wiring loom in the EA Falcon be adapted to suit an EL computer
management system? I was thinking of a Jim Mock DEV 2 upgrade for the current
completely stock engine.

Modified Signals
I've been a great fan of your site and have read most of your mods!! After
reading one of your articles concerning increasing the fuelling using
potentiometers to alter the signal of the AFM/MAP to the ECU, air intake
temperature and coolant temperature, an idea suddenly came to me-why not use a
MAP sensor (3 bar, 0-5 v output)r and wire it up with the first pot while the
second pot is in serial with the AFM/MAP? This set up will allow the fuelling to
be tuned according to boost level. Well, it's just an idea.

A more elegant approach would be to
use an AFM/MAP interceptor that can be programmed at various load points. The
DFA (Digital Fuel Adjuster) will let you do just that and is very close to being
released...
Ceramic or Not?
The article Japanese Import Hot-Picks - Part 2
contains an error. It states that the Nissan 300ZX had ceramic turbines where,
in fact, all Z32 300ZXs had steel turbines.

Can any readers confirm this?
Moke Madness
I know this is going back a long, long way but thanks to you guys I know what
I’m going to do with my newly acquired Moke. The article I’m referring to was
published on 10 July 2001. I was just wondering if one of the guys would read
the article again (Mid-Mount Moke Madness)
and just give me a really rough estimate on how much that would cost to do.
Anyway thanks guys I understand if you don't reply cause you have some much work
to do. It was just a hope.

Speak to Yagar Race
Engines/Austinville Wreckers (+61 2 6628 0206). We believe they were involved in
the build-up. A cost estimate? Well you’d want to allow AUD$5000 - $10,000
depending on your choice of management system, who does the work, etc. That’s a
rough guess, coz there aren’t too many Mokes like that!
