World’s Best Water Injection?
Many thanks for your "World’s Best Intercooler Water Spray" articles (see World's Best Intercooler Water Spray, Part 1). I would like to know if this pump/nozzle arrangement can used to
create the world’s best water injection system. Will there be undesirable lag
from triggering the pump or is it constant pressure? I would be using the motor
speed controller - Motor Speed Control Module - Part 3 - Water Injection.

We can’t see why the pump and nozzle can’t be used to good effect in a water
injection system. However, the Ulka E5EX pump’s 240V AC solenoid motor can’t be used with the DC Motor Speed
Control module but you might be able to run a 240V light
dimmer instead – an idea worth trying!
Yet Another Pump
Another intercooler water spray/water injection pump alternative is "The
Ideal Pump" found at www.pro-spray.com
This pump is capable of flowing 1.4 gpm (3785 cc/m) at 100 psi. I do not have
any further information on it besides what is found on the website - it may be
an incredibly noisy pump, I don't know. The advantage that I see is it is 12V DC
so you don’t need to use a power inverter. Also, the power of this unit is less
than your latest and greatest - but I still think it is very sufficient for the
job and it’s cheaper. A review of this pump used in an intercooler spray role
would be quite interesting.

Thanks for the link – looks like a pretty
good pump. But we must point out that the
Ulka E5EX pump we used was tested to a massive 360
psi – a helluva lot more than 100 psi! This pressure is very important in getting small droplets.
Jag Feedback
You just knew there'd be an email from me as soon as you ran a Jag article - The Xplosive XJ!
Minor errata - in your headline on the XJR you state "last of the XJ series",
which isn't correct as you can see here - www.jaguar.com.au There's a '05 XJ (and XJR) listed available for sale. What you meant, I
presume, is it's the last of the X300/X308 body shape which was replaced by the
X350 in mid 2003.
FYI not mentioned in your story is that the XJR100 is a special centenary - www.jag-lovers.org and www.jag-lovers.org/brochures

You’re absolutely right - we meant to say that the XJR100 is the last of the
X300/X308 series. Our article does mention that the XJR100 was built to celebrate the
100th anniversary of the birth of Jaguar founder, Sir William Lyons and
that just 500 examples were built – but, yes, these points could have been made
more prominent in the article.
Thermocouple Q
I enjoyed very much
reading the article on
building the thermocouple
controller TempScreen: Part 4 - Building a Custom Temperature Display.
Instead of using a
screen, though,
I intend to connect
a thermocouple to my
GReddy e01. Anyway,
I was
wondering why do you connect the number 1 pin of the
AD595Q to the ground? I have tried it your
way and if I connect the
device’s ground wire to
the chassis or negative
battery lead I get false
readings. If I don’t
connect the ground wire and simply use a voltmeter between the output pins and ground it works
fine. This way, it seems I don’t need to connect any ground wire. Could this be happening because one of the thermo inputs is
connected to the ground (pin1)? What would
happen if Idon’t connect pin1 to the ground and
only connect it to the thermocouple?

As seen in this diagram, Pin 1,
4, 7 and 13 should normally connect to earth. However, if the system works better by not connecting Pin 1 to ground, don't!
